Why Chenzhou Danxia Landform

Chenzhou is best known for its Danxia landforms and its slow-paced lifestyle. It’s a popular place for retirees nearby. Every year, many senior citizens from Changsha choose Chenzhou as a place for relaxation and wellness retreats.

Chenzhou is home to the southernmost alpine grassland in China — the Yangtian Lake Grassland, sitting at an elevation of 1,314 meters. It also features the stunning Danxia landform of Gaoyi Ridge, known for its dramatic red cliffs and layered rock formations.

The Danxia landform is a unique Chinese geological formation made of red-colored sandstones and conglomerates, shaped by both internal uplift and external erosion. Though resembling karst landscapes, it is classified as “pseudo-karst” due to its different rock composition.
