Whisper & Patchwork: China Farm Chatting Terrace

Hunan, famed as the land of rice and fish, is home to the village of Cha(t)ting.

In Chinese, Cha means “tea” and Ting means “pavilion.” Its English rendering, Cha(t)ting, takes on a more romantic charm. The village lies just 21 kilometers from downtown Changsha and about 10 kilometers from Tongguan Port.

Here, vast rice terraces and rapeseed fields cover around 40,000 mu (≈ 2,667 hectares), painting the landscape with green in summer and gold in autumn. Cha(t)ting is also home to a 1,505-mu blueberry base (≈ 100 hectares), the largest blueberry seedling center in Hunan Province.

In spring, hope is sown as you join local farmers in planting rice. By autumn, the fields transform into a golden patchwork, and you share in the joy of harvest—reaping not only rice but also the season’s promise and abundance.
